Basketball Addresses Local Media at Annual Media Day

The Penguins, who began practice on Saturday, Oct. 17, open the campaign at Sweet 16 participant Xavier, Friday, Nov. 13, at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.



2009-10 Schedule Notes
• The Penguins play 29 regular-season games for the fourth consecutive year and just the fifth time in school history.
• The Guins face five teams that made the 2009 NCAA Tournament and three that finished in the EPSN/USA Today Top 25.
• The Penguins will be nationally televised twice on ESPNU. The They also have games on Fox Sports Ohio, ESPN Regional and Fox Sports Pittsburgh. It marks the first time in school history the Guins have two nationally-televised games.

• The Guins will host an ESPNU game for the second straight season when the welcome Milwaukee on Jan. 22.

• YSU’s game at Cleveland State on Jan. 30 is the second of its ESPNU contests.

• YSU opens Horizon League play on the road against Detroit and closes league play against the Titans at the Beeghly Center.

• The Penguins play a total of 15 home games this season, four of which are doubleheaders.

• The Guins face Xavier for the first time since Dec. 14, 1949.

• YSU is making its second trip to the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh and the first since 2003.

• This is the second straight season the Guins will play 15 home contests.

• YSU takes on North Carolina Central for the first time.

• The busiest month is January when the Guins play nine times.

• The 18 conference games will tie a school record. This is the third straight season YSU will play 18 conference games. As members of the Mid-Continent Conference, YSU played 18 games three times (1993-94, 1994-95 and 1995-96).

• YSU is again among the pool of teams involved in ESPN’s BracketBuster concept. The Penguins will play at on the road this season at Saint Peter’s (N.J.) in a return game from last season’s BracketBusters.
 
 
Men's Basketball Tipoff at Pitt Set For Noon on ESPN Regional

Youngstown -- The Youngstown State men's basketball team's game time at Pittsburgh on Saturday, Nov. 28, has been set for Noon at the Petersen Events Center. The game will be aired on ESPN Regional, FSN Pittsburgh and tape-delayed in New York City on SportsnetNY.

Senior Kelvin Bright and the Penguins will take on Pittsburgh at Noon at the Petersen Event Center on ESPN Regional and FSN Pittsburgh.

This marks the fourth televised game for the Penguins in the 2009-10 season. The Penguins' season-opener against Xavier on Friday, Nov. 13, will be broadcast on Fox Sports Ohio at 7:30.

The Guins will host Milwaukee on ESPNU on Friday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Beeghly Center.

Youngstown State will also visit Cleveland State in an ESPNU game on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m. at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
 
 
Men's Basketball Game at Xavier to be Broadcast on Fox Sports Ohio

Cincinnati, Ohio -- The Youngstown State men's basketball team's season-opening game against Xavier on Friday, Nov. 13, will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Ohio, the network announced recently.

The broadcast will begin with a half-hour pre-game show at 7 p.m. and tipoff is slated at 7:30 p.m. at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This marks the third televised game for the Penguins in the 2009-10 season. The Penguins will host Milwaukee on ESPNU on Friday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Beeghly Center.

Youngstown State will also visit Cleveland State in an ESPNU game on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m. at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
