Zach Silverman, a 6-5 guard/forward from Fairfield, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Youngstown State University in Ohio.

Silverman said it's been a goal of his to play basketball at a Division I school, and he was impressed with the campus, coaching staff and players at Youngstown State on a recent visit. He's confident he'll be able to contribute right away.

"They lost their two best outside shooters from last year's team, and they said they recruited me because they needed a 3-point shooter," Silverman said. "They struggled a little last year, but the program is on the rise and I'm excited about being a part of it. Youngstown is only about five hours from Philadelphia, where both sets of grandparents and my brother live, so they'll be able to come and watch me play."

Silverman was a first-team all-Region XI selection after last season. He averaged 10.9 points a game for the Warriors as a sophomore and set the school record for highest free throw percentage in a season (.863) and a career (.815). The former all-state player at Maharishi School in Fairfield averaged seven points a game during his freshman season at Indian Hills and shot over 40% from behind the three-point arc both years at IHCC.

At Youngstown State, Silverman will play for head coach John Robic, a former graduate assistant at Kansas under Larry Brown. The Youngstown State Penguins play in the Horizon League where one of Silverman's conference opponents will be former IHCC Warrior Javier Mendiburu, who is at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Silverman is the fourth player from last year's Indian Hills squad who has signed to play at a Division I school next year. Rashaad Carruth will go to Southern Mississippi, Anthony Williams is headed to Central Florida and Maurice Latham will attend Campbell University.
