The Beeghly Physical
Education Center is the home of YSU men's and women's basketball,
women's volleyball, as-well-as the swimming & diving team.
Therefore it also contains the YSU Natatorium. To the left, is
the main entrance. In the foreground is the Veteran's Plaza and
memorial. |
| Beeghly Center was
dedicated on December 2, 1972, named after Mr. and Mrs.
Leon A. Beeghly, founders of the Standard Slag Company in Youngstown.
Rosselli Court named after legendary Penguin coach Dom Rosselli;
under his record-setting tenure, the Penguins had 22 winning seasons
and made 14 NCAA/NAIA appearances. The center is in its 30th year
as home to the men's program and the 27th year as home to the
Lady Penguins. |

The multipurpose
facility includes an Olympic-sized swimming and diving facility
(seen below), racquetball and squash courts, classrooms, and administrative
offices. Beeghly is also home to the men's and women's
basketball offices as well as the Olympic sports offices. |
In May 2002, the facility underwent
more than $2.5 million in renovations. Including a new front and
rear lobby and new hallways and locker rooms. Also a new $150,000
sound system was added to the arena. Prior to the 2000-01 season,
the court was repainted, two additional scoreboards were added
and expanded press-row seating was created. facility has a current
capacity of 6,500 for basketball seating.

Beeghly's Natatorium
is the home of the Penguin women’s swimming and diving teams.
The pool features a diving well and a 25-yard by 50-meter swimming
pool. With 10 lanes, the racing course starts at six feet and
reaches to 16 feet at its deepest. The Natatorium is also equipped
with two one-meter springboards and a three-meter springboard.
There are also five-meter, seven-and-a-half meter and 10-meter
diving platforms. |
The arena
features an 800-seat capacity on the east side and four underwater
viewing windows. The Beeghly Center Natatorium played host to
the 1977, 1980 and 1981 NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming
and Diving Championships. |
