Penguins in Hunt for Horizon League Title this Weekend at WATTS
The Youngstown State men's track and field team will be looking to build off its outdoor title next weekend when the Penguins play host to Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship this Saturday and Sunday.

The Penguins return two Horizon League champions in Eric Rupe and Conner Neu. Rupe won both the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters last year at the indoor meet while Neu claimed his first weight throw crown.

The men lost a close meet to Milwaukee last year in an event that came down to the final race. The Panthers were able to claim their 10th title in 11 years by a just 15 points over YSU (158-143). The runner-up finish marked the fifth time since joining the league that YSU came in second.

In the mix for conference championships are Austin McLean, Caleb Lloyd, Arnaldo Morales, Jacob Chiclowe, Ryan Booth, Fillian Lee, Tyree Ballenger and Carl Zallow. Earlier this year the Penguins set the school record in the DMR and that time ranks as the fastest in the league so far this year.

McLean has the best time in the 3,000-meter run this year by three seconds. He had the fourth quickest 800m time and fifth in the 5,000 meters.

Zallow has the second-fastest times in the 60-meter dash (6.93 seconds) and the 200 meters (21.89 seconds). Lloyd has the third-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.13 seconds) and YSU has three of the top six times in the event this year.

Morales won the Horizon League Championship in the outdoor league meet in the high jump and has the third-best high jump in the conference this season. He is also fifth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump. Lee ranks third in the conference in the triple jump.

Chiclowe is second in the shot put while Booth is third behind Oakland's Gino Vitella. Ballenger is second in the long jump behind Milwaukee's Nate Pozolinski.

Admission is $10 each day while Horizon League students are admitted free with their school ID. All other students are $5 while children five-and-under are free. Tickets are available at the WATTS on both days.

On Saturday, two running event finals and three field finals will highlight all the action. The running finals are the 5,000-meter run for both the men and women followed by the DMR. Preliminary running events on Saturday are for the 60m hurdles, 400 meters, 60-meter dash, 800-meter run and 200-meter dash. Finals for field events are the pole vault, long jump and weight throw.

On Sunday, field finals for the high jump, triple jump and shot put are on tap along with all the finals in the running events.
