Big Inning Sends Wright State to 9-0 Win in Series Finale
Wright State broke open a pitcher’s duel with a six-run sixth inning and defeated the Youngstown State baseball team 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.

YSU starter Jeremy Quinlan held the Raiders to just two hits and an unearned run through five innings, but Wright State erupted for six runs on six hits in the sixth to go up 7-0. The Raiders added a run in both the seventh and eighth innings for the final tally.

Frank Califano posted two hits for the third straight game to lead Youngstown State at the plate.

Mitch Roman reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly for the Raiders in the first inning, and that was the game’s only run in the first five innings. Quinlan worked around a leadoff double in the bottom of the third, and he retired nine straight batters heading into the sixth.

Gabe Snyder delivered the big blow in the sixth with a three-run homer that made the score 7-1, and Ryan Fucci’s home run in the eighth concluded the scoring.

Trevor Swaney held the Penguins to three hits and a walk while striking out five batters in six innings to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Youngstown State will play a pair of midweek games at Eastwood Field this week, hosting Ohio on Tuesday and Kent State on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is set for 5:30 p.m.
