Basketball Falls to FGCU in Triple Overtime, 104-101
Fort Myers, Fla. – Sophomore Cameron Morse scored a career-high 28 points and four other players scored in double figures, but the Youngstown State men's basketball team fell 104-101 in triple overtime to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday night at the Hilton Garden Inn/FGCU Classic.

Along with Morse, sophomore Francisco Santiago scored a career-high 17 points while sophomore Sidney Umude posted his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Bobby Hain and freshman Jordan Andrews each added 11 points.

The Penguins fall to 0-3 while the Eagles improve to 2-1.

Leading Florida Gulf Coast was Marc-Eddy Norelia with 34 points and 18 rebounds while Reggie Reid scored 18 points and nine assists. Christian Terrell had 12 points with 18 rebounds and Julian DeBose scored 14 points and Rayjon Tucker added 10.

The Penguins jumped out to a six-point lead, 97-91, in the third overtime after a pair of free throws by Santiago, a layup by Morse and two more free throws by junior Matt Donlanl, who had nine points and 10 rebounds.

FGCU scored the next seven points to take a 98-97 lead with 1:19 remaining, but Morse connected on two more free throws to regain the advantage 99-98 with 58 seconds left.

DeBose buried a 3-pointer from the corner to take a 101-99 lead and, after a YSU turnover, he gave the Eagles a four-point edge 103-99 with 26 seconds left.

Donlan hit a jumper with 12 seconds left to cut the deficit to two, but Norelia split a pair of free throws to extend the FGCU lead to three, 104-101, with nine seconds left.

Santiago's last-second 3-point attempt to tie the game was off the mark.

The Penguins were able to force a third extra period after trailing by four, 90-86, with 2:22 remaining. Morse hit a jumper to get within two, 90-88, with 1:46 left, and after DeBose split two free throws, Santiago drilled his fourth 3-pointer of the game to tie the score at 91-91 with 27 seconds left.

DeBose's game-winning 3-point attempt was off the mark.

In the first overtime, the Penguins led by as many as five, 76-71, and held a three-point lead after a layup by Umude with 42 seconds left.

Reggie Ried missed a 3-pointer but Terrell's offensive rebound led to DeBose's game-tying 3-pointer with 20 seconds to go.

The Penguins led by 12 points, 65-53, after a Santiago 3-pointer with 5:35 to go. FGCU, though, scored 14 of the next 16 points over the next four minutes to tie the game at 67-67. During that span, the Penguins missed five field-goal attempts and committed five turnovers.

Umude's layup - YSU's first field goal in more than five minutes - with just under a minute to play gave the Penguins a 69-67 lead, but a steal by Terrell and dunk by Norelia knotted the game at 69-69.

Each team had a chance to win, but Hain's 3-pointer with 20 seconds left was off the mark and Terrell missed two layups as the clock expired.

In the first half, the Penguins trailed by as many as 11 points, 22-11, with 9:23 left and made just one of their first 12 shots.

YSU scored nine straight to get within two, 22-20, after a three-point play by Andrews, a 3-pointer by Latin Davis, a free throw by Morse and a tip-in by Umude.

Davis' layup at the 5:48 mark tied the game at 24-24, and Hain's three-point play gave the Penguins their first lead, 27-24, with 5:25 remaining.

FGCU got within two, 31-29, at the 3:32 mark, but a layup by Devin Haygood, 3-pointers by Andrews and Donlan and three free throws by Morse keyed an 11-2 run and gave the Penguins an 11point lead, 42-31, with 39 seconds to go.

The Penguins shot 38.1 percent from the field but made 10 3-pointers and connected on 77.1 percent from the free-throw line.

The Eagles outscored the Penguins, 48-34, in the paint and scored 30 points off of 24 YSU miscues. FGCU also had a 29-19 advantage in second-chance points and out-rebounded the Penguins, 61-54, including 25 offensive rebounds.

The Penguins play Bowling Green, Sunday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m. at Alico Arena.
