Penguins Have 13 Student-Athletes Named Academic All-Horizon League

The student-athletes who were named academic all-league include: Miranda Castiglione (softball), Sarah Dowd (softball), Jon Hutnyan (men's track and field), Joe Dixon (men's track and field), Ryan Sulivan (men's track and field), Jaynee Corbett (women's track and field), Sarina Mauerman (women's track and field), McKenzie Sturtz (women's track and field), Annina Brendel (women's tennis), Dominika Lackova (women's tennis), Brandon Pluchinksy (men's golf), Emily Dixon (women's golf) and Hugo Morth (men's tennis).
Three Penguins earned academic all-league status for the third time in their careers. Brendel became the third women's tennis player to earn three-time recognition. Pluchinsky is just the third men's golfer to earn all-league laurels three times. Hutnyan joins a group of eight men's track and field athletes to earn all-league academic honors for the third straight year on the outdoor circuit. Five members of the group are two-time recipients: Pluchinsky, Emily Dixon, Sturtz, Dowd and Castiglione.
Youngstown State had 24 total Academic All-Horizon League honorees during the 2015-16 academic year with nine coming in the winter and two more coming in the fall. Hutnyan and Sullivan earned academic honors in all three seasons - cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
