Bowling Goes 4-1 in First Day at Bud Whitman Memorial
The Youngstown State women's bowling team went 4-1 in Baker games in its first day of competition as a Division I program on Saturday at the Bud Whitman Memorial. The tournament was held at Berks Lanes in Reading, Pa.

The highlight of the day was a 906-876 victory over preseason #17 Kutztown in the fourth match of the day. Youngstown State also had victories over Chestnut Hill (897-851), Molloy (896-665) and Saint Peter's (959-752).

The Penguins' lone loss was to Delaware State (1,031-890), which was the leader in total pins for the tournament. Youngstown State finished sixth in total pins for the day with 4,548, and the Penguins averaged 909.6 pins per match and 181.9 per Baker game.

 "We had a great showing for our first competition," YSU head coach Chelsea Gilliam said. "We played some tough teams and worked hard all day. Sixth place is a great start to what is going to be what we hope is a very successful season. I'm looking forward to continuing our success tomorrow."

The Penguins will compete in traditional matches versus Franklin Pierce, Adelphi, Coppin State, Daemen and Howard on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. in day two of the Bud Whitman Memorial.
