Chicago, Ill. -- Senior Kendrick Perry scored a game-high 23 points to lead four players reaching double figures as the Youngstown State men's basketball team defeated UIC, 75-62, on Tuesday evening at the UIC Pavilion.

Perry also dished out seven assists and collected five steals for the Penguins, who improve to 10-8 overall and 1-2 in the Horizon League. Senior Kamren Belin scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and junior DJ Cole and sophomore Bobby Hain each scored 12 points.

UIC's Kelsey Barlow scored 17 points to lead the Flames, who fall to 5-11 overall and 0-2 in the league. Marc Brown added 14 points for the Flames.

The Penguins shot an impressive 62.5 percent from the field in the first half, but, after eight first half ties, the Penguins trailed the Flames by six, 31-25, with 4:12 left before the intermission.

A 3-pointer by Cole and a jumper and dunk by Perry brought the Penguins within one, 33-32, with 2:37 to go.

After a poor alley-oop pass from Belin and an incredible no-look saving pass from Perry, Belin gave the Penguins their first lead since the 10:31 mark, 34-33, with 1:47 to go.

A three-point play by Brown put the Flames up 36-34, but a 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Penguins a 37-36 halftime lead.

UIC knotted the game at 39-39 on a jumper by Jay Parker with 17:10 to go. Then the Penguins scored six straight on a putback by Josh Chojnacki and two free throws and jumper by Perry to take a 45-39 lead.

Sophomore Ryan Weber nailed consecutive 3-pointers to balloon a four-point YSU advantage into a 10-point cushion, 51-41, with 13:32 to go.

Layups by Chojnacki and Perry and a free throw by Perry pushed the Penguins lead to 15, 56-41 at the 11:49 mark.

The Flames whittled the lead down to seven, 63-56, after a three-point play by Jake Weigand with 4:31 remaining.

Belin, though, drained two 3-pointers to key a 10-3 run over the next three minutes to push the Penguins advantage to 14, 73-59, with 1:20 left.

The Penguins shot 58.3 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from 3-point range.

Youngstown State hosts Cleveland State in the Horizon League home opener, Monday, Jan. 13, at 7:05 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.
