Macon, Ga. - The Youngstown State softball team dropped a pair of games on day one at the Mercer Bears Classic, falling to Michigan State, 7-3, and Mercer, 13-5, on Friday.
In the opener against Michigan State, freshman Cali Mikovich drove in two runs and belted her fourth home run of the season and freshman Steve Taylor went 1-for-2 with a double.
Against Mercer, Sophomore Sarah Dowd went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs batted in while Alexandria Gibson also had two hits.
Sophomore Maria Lacatena hit a solo home run and junior Katie Smallcomb went 1-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run.
The Penguins close out their spring break trip against Alabama A&M at 10 a.m. and Mercer at 2:30 p.m.
