Softball Wins Pair of Extra-Innings Games at Saint Francis (Pa.)
Loretto, Pa. -- The Youngstown State softball team twice knocked off Saint Francis (Pa.) in extra innings on Thursday afternoon. The Penguins won game one, 5-3, in 10 innings and game two, 8-5, in eight innings.

In the opener, junior Courtney Ewing tied a school record with four hits and scored two runs to lead the Penguins (5-11) to the game one victory. Senior Vicky Rumph drove in two runs and had three hits in game one.

Tied at 3-3 in the top of the 10th, Rumph and senior Sarah Gabel each collected run-scoring singles to push the Penguins to the 5-3 victory.

Junior Casey Crozier struck out five in a complete-game performance and picked up her fourth win of the season.

In the nightcap, the Penguins cranked out 11 hits and used late-inning heroics to complete the doubleheader sweep.

The Penguins scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning keyed by a two-run double by Rumph and an RBI-single by freshman Kelly Stowe.

Trailing 4-3 after four innings, junior Samantha Snodgrass gave the Penguins a 5-4 lead with a two-run home run, her second of the season.

The Red Flash knotted the game at 5-5 in the bottom half of the fifth.

In the top of the fourth and trailing 4-2, freshman Miranda Castiglione tripled and then scored on a ground out to get the Penguins within one, 4-3.

Senior Hana Somogyi pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief and allowed just two hits to pick up her first win of the season.

The Penguins visit Horizon League foe Wright State for a three-game series, April 6-7. First pitch on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
