Penguins Open Season With Wins Over Tiffin, Niagara
Youngstown - The Youngstown State men's tennis team opened the dual portion of its season with wins over Tiffin and Niagara on Friday at the Boardman Tennis Center.

YSU (2-0) beat Niagara 6-1 in the evening after beating Tiffin 7-0 in an afternoon match.

Against the Purple Eagles, YSU won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The Penguins then picked up wins at No. 1 by Mitch Maroscher and No. 2 by Matthew Kritzinger. A win at No. 4 by Joao Garreto clinched the win for the Penguins. Thomas Rodrigues dropped a three-set contest before Luke Purser and Gabriel Tolesani won in straight sets to conclude the match.

To start their busy day in Boardman the Penguins beat Tiffin 7-0. YSU won all three doubles matches winning 6-2 at No. 1, 6-3 at No. 2 and 6-1 at No. 3.

In singles play, YSU swept all six matches. Maroscher won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Kritzinger earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2, Rodrigues won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, Garreto picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4, Tolesani won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 and Purser won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.

The Penguins are back in action on Sunday when they play host to Duquesne. First serve at the Boardman Tennis Center is set for 8:30 a.m.
