Penguins Grind Out 5-2 Win Over Oakland
Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown State women's tennis team won five singles matches to hold off Oakland by a 5-2 margin on Saturday at the Boardman Tennis Center.

The Penguins (9-8 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League) dropped the doubles point before rebounding strong during singles play taking three matches in straight sets and two in three.

YSU clinched the match when Nehel Sahni topped Elizabeth Guy 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles spot.

Before Sahni's victory, the Guins won three of four completed singles matches. At No. 1, Marta Burak cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cam Sabourin. Next, Julianna Heino defeated Camille Hemond Hill in straight set at No. 5 winning 6-4, 6-3. At No. 2, Dominika Lackova beat Karine Celis by a 6-4, 6-4 score.

The Golden Grizzlies (2-13, 1-3) picked up a win at No. 6 as YSU's Sofia Macias Mendoza dropped a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 match to Juliana Guevara.

Next Sahni had the dual match clinching point with her come-from-behind three-set win. In the final match of the evening, Annina Brendel rallied to beat Tamara Blum 6-0, 6-7 (7-5), 7-5. Blum rallied in the tiebreaker to force a third set and Brendel rallied from 5-4 down in the third set to take the match.

Oakland won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the point. At No. 1, Burak and Heino won 6-2 against Sabourin and Hemond-Hill.

The Penguins return to action on Sunday morning when they play host to Detroit. First serve at the Boardman Tennis Center is set for 8:30 a.m.
