Brown Earns College Sports Madness Honors; Penguins in Mid-Major Top 25
Brandi Brown and the Youngstown State women's basketball team garnered more national attention this week as Brown was named to the College Sports Madness All-High Major Team, and the Penguins appeared in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.

Brown earned a spot on the College Sports Madness All-High Major Second Team after being a fourth-team member in the preseason. Also named the Horizon League Player of the Year by the website, Brown will enter the Women's National Invitational Tournament with averages of 20.5 points and 11.3 rebounds. She was joined on the second team by fellow Horizon League member Shalonda Winton of Cleveland State, and Green Bay's Adrian Ritchie was a fourth-team member.

As a team, the Penguins are in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 for the first time in school history. After receiving votes for much of the season, they cracked the top 25 on March 5 with a ranking of 23. In the most-recent poll released on March 12, YSU was up to 20th with 127 points. Green Bay is the only other Horizon League team to receive any votes and is second in the poll, and Toledo is the other Ohio school in the top 25 at four.

The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast. It is in its third year of existence.
