Bobby Hain Ties Career High In Defeat to Oakland
Bobby Hain tied his career scoring high with 26 points, but the Youngstown State men's basketball team dropped a 96-80 decision to Oakland at the Beeghly Center on a snowy Sunday afternoon.

Hain was 10-of-17 from the field and made 6-of-7 free throws to tie his high which was set earlier this year against Kennesaw State. Hain also grabbed nine rebounds as the Penguins went 19-of-21 from the free-throw line.

After trailing by seven at halftime, the Penguins could not contain the Golden Grizzlies who scored 47 points in the final 20 minutes and shot 50 percent (16-of-32).

Hain's basket at the 18:31 mark made the score 51-44 before Oakland scored the next nine points to build a 16-point advantage. After YSU cut the deficit to 66-55 with 11:37 left, Oakland went on an eight-point run to build a 73-55 lead. The Penguins never were able to get within 14 the rest of the game.

The Penguins drop to 10-15 overall and 1-9 in the Horizon League while Oakland is now 11-12 and 6-2.

For the game, YSU shot 43.8 percent making 28-of-64 attempts while Oakland hit at a 54.8 percent clip knocking down 34-of-62 shots.

Also scoring in double figures for the Penguins was Osandai Vaughn who had 16 while Marcus Keene added 10. Corey Petros led Oakland with 21 points.

In the first half, each team was hot from the floor. Oakland connected on 60 percent (18-of-30) from the field, including nine 3-pointers. Oakland made six of its first seven field goal attemtps, including its first three 3-pointers.

The Penguins made 14-of-26 of their field-goal attempts (53.8 percent), went 4-of-9 from 3-point range and made all 10 of their free-attempts.

Oakland led for nearly 17 minutes and by as many as 11 points with 3:28 left before the intermission.

The Penguins rallied from 11 down to get within two, 44-42, with 1:24 left in the half. Cameron Morse hit a jumper, Fletcher Larson made a pair of free throws, Hain, who scored 13 points in the first half, made a layup and two free throws to get within three, 42-39.

After two charity tosses by Petros put the Golden Grizzlies back up five, Shawn Amiker converted a three-point play to make the score 44-42 in favor of Oakland.

Dante Williams hit a 3-pointer and Nick Daniels hit a jumper with 44 seconds left to close out the first-half scoring and gave the Golden Grizzlies a 49-42 halftime lead.

The Penguins are at Cleveland State on Wednesday night.
