Youngstown, Ohio -- Youngstown State women's soccer Head Coach Will Lemke announced Maria Vitello (Long Beach, Calif.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Penguins program for the 2015 season. Vitello is the eighth recruit to sign with the Penguins.

Vitello, a forward/midfielder, was a two-year letterwinner at Lakewood High School and a tallied 30 career assists in just two seasons. She was named team MVP as a sophomore and had four goals and 17 assists in her last season.

"Maria is a very strong all-around athlete who possesses a unique combination of size, speed and strength," Lemke said. "She has the speed to stretch the field and the technical pace to beat people off the dribble.

"She is a tenacious competitor and a very strong and physical defender.  Her tactical and technical flexibility gives her the ability to play anywhere on the field except goalkeeper.  She will be a very nice addition to both our defense and our attack, and will compete for a many starting positions right away.

Vitello joins goalkeeper Elizabeth Balgoyen (Spotsylvania, Va.), midfielder Samantha Bidinger (Grafenwoehr, Germany), midfielder/defender Cindy Christ (Germany), forward Chauntel Houk (Broadview Heights, Ohio), midfielder Madison Hughes (Howell, Michigan), defender Sophia Mancini (Canfield, Ohio) and midfielder Paige Thompson (Chesterfield, Mich.).
