Penguins Earn First Win in Trip to Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season during a three-match trip to Las Vegas. YSU beat Southern Utah and lost contests to Idaho and UNLV. All matches were played at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Penguins beat the Thunderbirds 4-0 on Saturday, lost 6-1 to the Runnin' Rebels on Sunday and 6-1 to the Vandals on Friday.

In the win over Southern Utah, Sofia Macias picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Teresa De Enrique Schmidt. At No. 5, Nehel Sahni was victorious against Megan Bell, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 6, Ana Stroe won a 6-4, 6-0 decision over Charity Sagiao.

The Guins won two of three doubles matches to take the point against the Thunderbirds to propel them to the 4-0 win.

Against UNLV, Julianna Heino earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over Reka Szentas at No. 5. In the match against Idaho, Sahni picked up a 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 victory at No. 6 against Lucia Badillos.

YSU returns to action on Friday when it plays host to Bucknell at the Boardman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
